A month into my sabbatical year and I've realised  finally I have time to submit a Charter Engineer application to the Energy Institute. An Energy Institute membership workshop (free) helped me realise it wouldn't be as onerous as I thought. The workshop was conducted by Chris Boocock, Chairman of the Membership Panel, an enthusiastic engineer. I just love to listen to someone talking passionately about engineering.

I'm enjoying having the time to review technical literature relating to modelling Tight gas peformance. I've had the opportunity to work in this area of reservoir engineering over the past two years. Call it a mathematicians intuition but I'm concerned that using conventional methods, for reservoir performance prediction, might give misleading results. The challenge will be turning that intuition into a reasoned argument. If I can do that maybe a PHD or Joint industry project could be opportunities for me to pursue after my sabbatical year.

Had an enjoyable visit to Dundee University and the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and mineral Law and Policy. Gave the students a presentation entitled;

 UKCS ASSET DEVELOPMENT –

A Reservoir Engineer's (Worm's eye) perspective'
shame I kept knocking over my drinks!
