As facilitator to the founding of a Aberdeen-SPE's female initiatiive, subsequently named 'Another Perspective', Sally was keen that the initiative would meet the needs of existing female SPE members. To do this a 'Get togeather' took place in February 2009. Agreed Aims and Objectives were an outcome of that gathering. They were;
Aim
To provide support to current and potential female SPE members such that they are able to achieve their full potential
Main Objectives
Promote female role models and mentors to those existing and entering the oil industry
To develop and encourage the network of professional women
To promote the benefits of gender diversity (ie increase awareness of business drivers for attending women’s initiatives)
By April 2009 Sally was deeply concerned about the spirit in which the Aberdeen SPE committee were embracing the initiative.
It appears that concern was justifed. The SPE-UK website describes the initiative in terms of a recruitment drive;
"The Another Perspective committee came into existence due to the low female numbers attending and participating in SPE in Aberdeen. The committee is being driven mainly, but not exclusively, by women to encourage further female membership and participation in the SPE."
I firmly belief that in any diversity initiative a benefit to the individual has to be realised
